Dr. Jacques Attali is an economic theorist, with a Ph.D. in Economics from Paris University, as well as degrees from Ecole Polytechnique, Ecole des Mines, Institut d'Etudes Politiques and National School of Administration. He taught economic theory at the Ecole Polytechnique, the Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées, and the University of Paris Dauphine. |
Professor, writer, special advisor to the President of the French Republic, François Mitterrand (1981-1991), Founder and First President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (1991-1993), Jacques Attali is now Chairman of A&A, an international consulting firm based in Paris, and Founder and President of PlaNet Finance, an international non profit organisation that uses the Internet for Poverty Alleviation by focusing on structuring the microfinance sector.
Attali also founded Action Internationale Contre la Faim , a non-governmental organization, and the European program Eurêka, a major European program on new technologies, in 1980 and 1984 respectively. He also launched in 1989 an international program of action for the disastrous floods of Bangladesh. Attali also served as Conseiller d'Etat in Paris, and has advised the United Nations General Secretary on nuclear proliferation. He is also the President of the Supervisory Board, MicroCred.
He has written 38 books, essays, novels and theatre plays, translated in more than twenty languages with more than 3 millions circulations worldwide .
