Sector Development and Business Services
The overall objective of SouthAsia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF) is to stimulate growth by increasing the number, profitability and growth rates of SMEs. To this end, the Sector Development and Business Services component works towards increasing the access and use of Sector Development and Business Services by SMEs through both demand and supply side interventions.
|
To stimulate the supply of Sector Development and Business Services, the SDBS component builds capacity of local firms and institutions ( Service Providers ) to offer business services on a commercial basis to SMEs that improve their performance, competitiveness and growth. New content, programs and products are tested first and then scaled up. SEDF also undertakes activities for raising awareness among SMEs about the benefits provided by these Sector Development and Business Services and hence, stimulates the demand side of the market. The underlying reason for SEDF to work through private sector service providers, rather than offering the services directly to SMEs is to facilitate development of a sustainable service market as a means to achieve higher economic growth and employment, and reduce poverty. |
